Lama Shenpen Hookham is the Spiritual Director and principal teacher of the Awakened Heart Sangha. In Buddhism, the Teacher (Guru in Sanskrit or Lama in Tibetan) is there to ensure the purity and integrity of the tradition, making sure that the teaching situation is authentic and conducive to Awakening. Lama Shenpen writes about her own experience working with her teachers:
